Castle Rock School, Leicestershire

Castle Rock School, Leicestershire

SIPs provided a structural and thermal fast track construction solution for the Castle Rock School in Leicestershire. The system provided fast site installation, which enabled other trades to work fast and safely to meet the construction programme.

The walls were constructed using 150mm SIPs and the roof with 180mm panels offering a clear span of 5m from rafter to rafter. The external finish for walls was a mixture of brick/block and timber cladding and the roof had a single ply membrane applied over the panels. All structural openings were factory engineered to ensure a precision fit on site.

Panels were designed to be integrated with the gluelam frame and enabled the elimination of timber purlins and rails. Panels provided additional restraint to the frame and acted as a diaphragm on the roof.

Days Inn

Days Inn Hotel, Nuneaton

A unique and flexible approach to this project has provided a SIPs construction solution for a 4 storey 110 bedroom hotel in Nuneaton. Over 6000m2 of 125mm Sips walls were used and designed to accommodate the loads from 150mm concrete Bison floor beams resting directly on them.

Fast track installation reduced the construction programme by over 50% and extensive structural testing was carried out to ensure full compliance with building performance specification and to satisfy building regulations.

Holiday Homes, Ilfracombe

Over 12000m2 of SIPs were used in the construction of 100-bed holiday apartments in Ilfracombe. A Sip construction solution was installed within an 8 week construction period, which enabled an overall construction programme of 29 weeks to be achieved.

The panels were 150mm in thickness and achieved high levels of thermal and structural performance. The external finish was a render system applied directly to the panels facing.

No structural defects, i.e. shrinkage occured after construction and fitment of windows and doors took place with ease.
