When purchasing Sips you should be aware that:

• PU cored SIPS Give at least 40% more Insulation value than EPS.
• Pressure Injection Manufacture gives a SIP Peel strength 300% better than a Laminated EPS Panel.
• Fire Performance is far Superior to an EPS cored SIP.
• As PU Sips give superior performance for a given thickness it follows that ancillary timbers, wall & floor plates etc are smaller and therefore PU sips become more cost effective.
• Hemsec Sips Ltd have carried out the most extensive SIP testing program ever carried out in the UK on Structural Insulated panels and  have data on Racking, Vertical UDL, Uplift, Horizontal UDL, Eccentric compressive loads, Compressive Strength, Creep, Concentrated load, Thermal Conductivity, Tensile, Sheer, Peel strength, etc
Structural Insulated Panels are an evolution of traditional timber frame building. Their composite construction ensure SIPs offer excellent structural load bearing, combined with superior insulation, whilst eliminating problems such as thermal bridging and compression shrinkage.

Once completed, a SIPs structure forms a monolithic shell is up to seven times stronger than a conventional timber frame structure and is a popular building method in areas subject to earthquakes, tornadoes and hurricanes. This provides a building with a very robust and solid feel which can be indistinguishable from a traditionally constructed building once complete.

Thermal Performance
SIPS panels offer superior thermal performance.
PU cored SIP panels produce homes which are significantly more efficent.
Currant building standards are 0.35/W/M2K, this translates roughly to an
energy requirement of 50Kw/hr/yr to heat a sq.m of floor area. SIP homes
will require significantly less than this, probably around 10Kw/hr/yr.

  • Test stopped because Hemsec SIP proved to be too strong for the UKAS Lab test rig, it bent!
